Washer Repair
Done Right.

Won't drain, spin, or fill β€” or trying to walk across the floor? Chad sets it straight. Chad gives you a straight diagnosis and an honest price before he starts.

A washer that quits is a washer that immediately generates a mountain of laundry with nowhere to go. In a busy Bryan-College Station household, that problem compounds fast. Whether it won't start, won't spin, won't drain, or won't stop making that terrible noise, Sasquatch Appliance Repair can get it sorted.

Common Symptoms

Won't drain. The most common washer complaint. Usually the pump filter is clogged with coins, lint, or debris, or the drain pump itself has failed. Sometimes a kinked or blocked drain hose is the culprit.

Won't spin β€” or spins violently off-balance. A drum that won't spin is often a lid switch (top-loader) or door latch (front-loader) failure, or a worn drive belt. Violent vibration during spin is usually an out-of-balance load, but persistent shaking points to failed shock absorbers, worn suspension rods, or β€” in older machines β€” a broken drum spider arm.

Won't fill or fills slowly. The water inlet valve is the most likely cause. Mineral deposits from BCS water can also clog the inlet screens.

Leaking. Front-loader door boot seals fail and crack over time, especially with mold buildup. Top-loaders can leak from a failing pump or a damaged tub seal.

Makes a burning smell or grinding noise. Worn drum bearings produce a grinding or rumbling noise during spin. A burning smell during agitation can indicate a failing motor coupling or drive belt.

Won't start at all. Could be a lid switch, door latch, control board, or timer, depending on the make and model.

Maintenance Tips

Use the right amount of HE detergent. High-efficiency machines need HE-specific detergent, and they need less of it than you'd think. Excess suds create residue that coats the drum interior and pump filter, eventually causing draining problems and that musty smell.

Leave the door open between loads on front-loaders. A sealed drum retains moisture β€” especially relevant in BCS humidity β€” which promotes mold and mildew in the door gasket. Wipe the gasket dry after the last load of the day.

Clean the pump filter every 3 months. It's the small access door at the bottom front of your front-loader. A clogged filter is the single most preventable washer repair.

Don't overload. An overstuffed drum stresses the bearings and motor, throws balance off during spin, and doesn't actually clean clothes well. Fill the drum about 3/4 full.

Signs It's Near the End of the Trail

If drum bearing replacement is needed on a front-loader that's over 8 years old, evaluate carefully β€” bearing jobs on some machines require nearly full disassembly and the labor cost can approach machine value.

A cracked outer tub (uncommon, but it happens) is almost always a replacement call. Tub replacements are rarely economical.

If the machine has already had multiple major repairs (pump, bearings, motor) and is over 10 years old, you may be investing more than the machine is worth.

We'll give you a straight answer on whether it's worth fixing.

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you charge for estimates?

For most repairs, we provide a diagnostic assessment and quote before any work begins. You'll know the cost upfront before we turn a wrench. There is a standard service call fee to come out and diagnose β€” that fee is applied toward your repair if you choose to proceed.

What areas do you serve?

We serve Bryan, College Station, and the surrounding Brazos Valley communities. If you're nearby and not sure whether we cover your area, give us a call at 979-402-1241 and we'll let you know.

What brands do you work on?

We work on all major appliance brands including Whirlpool, Maytag, GE, Samsung, LG, Frigidaire, Bosch, KitchenAid, Electrolux, Speed Queen, and more β€” both gas and electric, top-load and front-load. If you're not sure whether your brand or model is serviceable, just ask.

Do you offer same-day or emergency service?

We do our best to accommodate same-day appointments, especially for urgent situations like a refrigerator that's stopped cooling. Availability varies by day. Call 979-402-1241 and we'll let you know what we can do.

What's included in the maintenance plans?

Each maintenance plan includes an inspection and service visit for one or more appliances, depending on the plan tier. We check key components, clean critical areas (coils, filters, vents), run performance tests, and flag any early warning signs before they become expensive repairs. The Lil' Squatch Check covers one appliance; the Squatch Tune-Up covers two; Beast Mode covers your whole home. Replacement parts and labor for repairs found during the inspection are not included in the package pricing but will be quoted before any work proceeds.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash, check, and most major credit and debit cards. Payment is due at the time of service.

Do you fix gas appliances, or only electric?

We work on both gas and electric appliances β€” ovens, ranges, dryers, and more. All gas work is performed to manufacturer specification. If a gas line connection or shutoff is involved beyond the appliance itself, we'll let you know and coordinate accordingly.

What should I do if my appliance is making a burning smell or sounds dangerous?

Stop using it immediately. Unplug it if it's electric, or turn off the gas supply valve if it's a gas appliance. A burning smell β€” especially plastic or electrical β€” can indicate a fire risk. Call us at 979-402-1241 and we'll prioritize getting someone out to you. Don't run the appliance again until it's been inspected.
